About Us
Truly it has been an honour to be associated with the Art World for over 30 years surrounded by the artists and paintings I love. The Old Masters sparked my interest early on when my girlfriend would leave charcoal sketches of classical figures at my door with milk and cookies...true, from that point on I started researching classical paintings at the Toronto Reference Library for the next 10 years, I would meet up with Joseph Cach a local Toronto restorer who showed me all about art restoration and conservation of paintings. Studying auction catalogues and visiting local auctions museums, helped tremendously my visual orientation towards, drawings, Sculptures and Oil Paintings from all European Schools especially the Italian, French and Flemish Schools. But the Roman, Bolognese, Napolitano and Venetian artists were my favourite , especially Carlo Maratta, Giuseppie di Ribera, Guido Reni, Guercino, the Carracci , Tiepolo, Veronese and Rubens my favorite. I studied with Professor Phillip Sohm at UofT and took Museology from the best . Since early on I was in pursuit of the finest paintings I could find, auctions both abroad and local, private Toronto estates as I researched, my confidence continued to build...... Blessings followed. I later appreciated impressionist and expressionist paintings, cubist , narrative and surrealist paintings , acquiring many for resale , this too added greatly to my development, getting away from the Classical Genres for a time but always running back to Old Masters. Art was a passion, a joy, a lifestyle, I still see 2000 paintings a week at auctions. I linked up with the finest Curators in the World from both Europe and North America on my Linkedin. I no longer had to write letters and send photos to these institutions. Life has changed, Art has changed, I have changed . But still Great Paintings are still Great Paintings they cry out and cannot be disguised as anything less. -Robert Francis Parro President Old Master Gallery Inc,
